[ There's something truly special about Liyue's Lantern Rite. Not only the meaning of it, but the decorations, and the way the people of the city seem to have smiles on their faces no matter where they go, even when they're thinking of their departed loved ones. There's great food and drink, all sorts of games and activities to play, and overall an amazing time to be had. Which is mostly why she's here— inspiration for Inazuma's next festival is always a good thing, and with the Sakoku Decree over and the borders open, she couldn't help but want to see how the Liyue people plan a party.
(Although, in Yoimiya's humble opinion, the fireworks could serve to be a little more spectacular. They're beautiful, of course— fireworks always are— but an event like this deserves more pizzazz.)
Her mind is still full of fireworks when she spies a familiar face a short distance away; recognizing him instantly, the young woman's face breaks into a smile, and she waves, calling his name with no hesitation. Even on the crowded streets, her voice carries, but she stands on tiptoe and waves again for good measure before hurrying over to him, checking his shoulder with a friendly bump of her own. ]
Fancy seeing you here, O Anti-Mujina Specialist.
[ The words are said with a playful lilt in her voice, a broad smile up in his direction, another jostle against his shoulder. It's not that Yoimiya doesn't trust the Traveler when they tell her that Tartaglia is dangerous, that he's done bad things in the past. She knows the Traveler is someone she can trust— they're someone she does trust. It's just that her experience with the Harbinger has been so vastly different to what she's heard. He's friendly, he saved someone he didn't have to save, and he's good with the kids to boot. And the occasional letters they've exchanged since his return to Snezhnaya haven't given her any reason to change her mind on the topic.
So she smiles. ]
If I'd known you were gonna be here too, I would've brought some extra arrows. You still owe me that shoot-off, remember?

Hoh? Yoimiya is here? He can work with that, enough of an interest in his empty eyes seem to be twinkling in turn. Good, good, since she wants to shoot off then he can make that work too knowing that he's still got his own but hearing the additional part about her not having extra makes him frown a little.
How does he fix this then he wonders... he does have more money than common sense he gets told often, Pantaleone even mentioned that he can safely spend his heart out knowing that they've made more than enough so let's see what he can do here.) What, want me to buy some more then? (Joking but serious as ever though he'd have to figure out if anywhere is still open for him to grab some quick arrows for her quiver. That or he lets her use half of his, whichever.)
I do have mine~! Of course I'm not really expecting you to wanna do right now given the festivities, though I've been getting bored just idly watching everyone.
(In between his terrorizing of Zhongli and others but that was just a small detail knowing that he isn't going to go on about that or his Harbinger business. It's almost funny how she seems to believe him to be that friendly but didn't seem to ask much about his tendencies, his obsessive streak no less once he gets interested fully.
A thought that makes him wonder what sort of expression she'd make at finding out that the kind and wonderful Tartaglia, Childe even, was by no means what he came off as. Maybe she'd anguish from the betrayal and fight him, maybe it'd wipe that cute smile off her lips giving him an expression only he'd have. The thoughts seem to be going toward a place he shouldn't have now.
Best to quickly shake it off once he rolls his shoulders with something a smirk now and contemplating how to go about their little challenge if she wants it now.)
When did you get here anyway, just recently? I've been back in Liyue for good bit and should be around for awhile after the Lantern Rite of course.

If he has his own arrows on him it's better than nothing, and although she was hoping to show him some of her homemade specialties— they make any contest just that little more sparkly, after all— she has enough of her own regular arrows that they can still have a fair competition. She'll explain all that later, though— while she doesn't mind interrupting the festivities for a little fun, especially when he's already finding himself bored, he's asking questions right now and it would be impolite of her to drag him off in the middle of them. Right?
And so she responds with a bright grin, a slight nod as she looks around the place. ] Mmhmm! Today, in fact. I've never been here before, because of Sakoku Decree an' all, so I thought it might be nice to experience the kind of festivals they throw over here...
[ Realization strikes. If he's bored, then... ]
You've spent a lot of time here before, right? If you're bored of the party, perhaps you wouldn't mind showing me around? While we're at it, we can find some place to have our contest~ After all your talk, it'd be too much of a pity if we didn't get the chance, right?
[ Why she's goading on a Fatui Harbinger, even playfully, no one will ever understand. ]
no subject
Boring parties and the like were never his thing.
They needed a certain excitement for him to get some real fun out of it once he finds himself nodding along with her words in a near casual way. His more intrusive yet tainted thoughts finding this amusing that a girl can be this dense with goading him on without knowing the things he's capable of would certainly make her regret it.
That and the thought of her drinking that Fire Water he left is another thing it wishes it could have seen. He's by no means a slouch when it comes to that even as her questions come to mind and cause said thoughts to go away for the time being; he'll need to ignore those for now knowing there's bigger things at hand.
His entertainment included, much needed entertainment at that.)
Alright, alright, you got me there! We'll go walking for a bit then on the streets and figure out where we can set up at after our little exploration~. Gonna be a real shame if you wind up losing to me whenever I did mention the bow is a handicap for me!
(If he masters this then he'll be a weapon master just about is what he hasn't told anyone. Out of everything he tried his sole other weakness before it was the Catalyst but that was because it worked differently in comparison to everything else. Grasping that wasn't easy but once he got it there was plenty of destruction in his wake.)
no subject
Handicap or not, Tartaglia, wouldn't it be a shame if a Fatui Harbinger lost to a little old country girl like me~?
[ It's another gentle jostle of his shoulder, a playful, jovial smile as she extends an arm to him, offering it for him to take as if they were some kind of proper, to-do gentleman and lady on a tour of the city. Yoimiya does, after all, love her games of make-believe, whether she's assisting the children in their hunt for the Great Mujina Youkai or parading around Liyue like a member of the elite. Some might call her childish, but in her opinion it's just the kind of thing that adds a little flavor to the hum-drum of the day.
Besides, those who'd call her childish are probably also the kinds of people that would judge her for spending time with a Harbinger, no matter how kind he has proven himself to be whilst in her company. As far as she's concerned, a person and their job can be two separate things, and his dedication to his Archon is a part of his professional life, something of which she herself is not a part.
What she doesn't realize is that Traveler was trying to warn her— before she cut them off— about the dark, twisted nature of the man himself, something that runs much deeper than what he does for his country and his dedication to his Tsaritsa.
Perhaps that's why she patiently waits for him to link arms with her now, to take her on a tour of the city before they find a place to set up for their game. ]
no subject
(Twisted and obsessive, though the twisted part was more in his fights and provocations. He sought his thrills and he would have them the way he wants if not chase after others in the way he wants to too; there's something particularly bad about his obsessive streak not many dared to think about. If he's truly interested in a person, he's going to remember details, routines, everything from top to bottom in an attempt to get further into their head.
He chases so willingly those who dare fall into that trap and flare it. The Traveler having first hand experience on part of his obsessive streak with chasing them through and through for his thrill. His desire to fight and fight until he wins or he dies. It was amusing really to see someone like this thinking he was harmless enough for being a Harbinger once he goes arm in arm with her now after those thoughts for now fade away.
He'll worry about those later even if her pushing his shoulder the way she did was also amusing. He can't help but seek his entertainment out usually but to have it show here in front of him like a wrapped gift is perfect.
He'll make the most of this is the bigger thought though he has to wonder what he can do later to draw some manner of reactions from her if she were to flare those instincts of his further. Might as well cross that bridge when he gets there as well on top of it, is what he's thinking at the moment with his unsuspecting grin as usual well in place on his lips.)
But I like country folk, they're fun really to mess around with.
(And not in a good way if they're strong.)
no subject
Although compared to what they likely are, unbeknownst to her, her worries are tame. Nonetheless, her voice takes on a playfully scolding tone. ]
Mister Tartaglia, it's not very kind to play pranks on unsuspecting countryfolk. Not all of them are understanding the way I am, you know!
[ She certainly can't think of many others who would walk around the city of Liyue arm in arm with a Fatui Harbinger. Then again, she's also not sure that any of them would understand the dangers inherent in spending time with someone like him. She's no fool, after all— even now, the Traveler's advice is in her mind, even as she chooses to ignore it in favor of her belief. A belief in her mind that has been proven in the way he plays along with the kids, appreciates their games and guards their trust in the same way she does.
(Maybe it helps a little too that he has a dazzlingly friendly smile, a genial nature that speaks to all the right things in her mind. But that's neither here nor there, not really. It's just that he's not as bad as the traveler wants her to believe, that's all. That's the important thing here.) ]
You spent a lot of time in this city, right? Tell me about it~
no subject
(For her credit, the tameness of her thoughts and the way she took it does make him laugh though the dark tone of it he'd have in response isn't there. No need to yet, she doesn't know a thing once he finds himself wondering where the thoughts came from that led her to think he'd quite honestly prank country folk. Then again Childe's more mundane interests do fit into that spectrum on terms of his countrymen and the like but that's another thing for later.
They both seem to fit well, he thinks, her looking quite nice on his arm without a single thought or anything as to what she's getting herself into. Sort of like a date but not with a devil knowing he's got the looks, the smile, and the attitude that most don't read too much into with about the more darker parts of his personality being all nicely kept down like a present for later.
So far he's thinking she's cute, sunny, worth his time though he knows he can definitely beat her in a fight typically.
Maybe a half thought on how she'd look in their thick winter clothes with their own food around starting up some of her own fireworks before he looms again behind her at any unsuspecting moment were anyone to dare push their luck. Mm, too bold for now is something Childe thinks. That's something he can think more on later anyway once her question registers.
She wants to know more about Liyue, huh?)
I'm not as verbose and knowledgeable as Mister Zhongli buuuut, I know a thing or two like some of the best food comes from the Wanmin Restaurant! They can get a little on the spicy side though, really spicy but nothing I'm not use to if you're hungry any.
(He's definitely bragging right now for fun.)
no subject
[ Oh, but the Traveler would be horrified at the light, playful acceptance in Yoimiya's words, at the way she essentially allows him to vouch for himself against an accusation that she didn't even really mean. She's pleasantly clueless, unaware not only of the true scope of his darkness but also of the way it's already creeping up on him as he imagines for the barest of moments the way it might be with her under his thumb in Snezhnaya. Rather, her attention is on the way he playfully brags about his knowledge of the city, of the foods they eat here— and of course the question of spice makes her eyes light up, a curious and excited raise of her brows. ]
I have to ask~ how spicy is "really spicy"?
[ She's hardly thinking of it as a competition, despite the bragging tone of his voice, but rather an opportunity to try something new— Inazuma isn't really known for its spicy foods, after all, and it sounds like it could potentially be fun to try something in that realm. But as a relatively new traveler, doesn't she also have to be just a little bit cautious? In her mind, it only makes sense to ask someone as widely-traveled as Tartaglia is. ]
If you recommend it, I wanna try it... but not if my stomach's gonna suuuuuper regret it later, you know?
[ And then, a playful grin, a little nudge even though their arms are currently linked. ]
If I'm sick, it'll give you too much of an advantage over me when we shoot.
no subject
(And boy was her creations certainly odd by normal standards though Childe finds it amusing someone would use slime condense in their ingredients. Really whatever part of monsters she found appealing enough though he's not quite going to mention their surprises; he's simply seen them enough to know how her head can work in Xiangling's case with food.
Not that he's seeing this as a competition but he does seem to be having some manner of fun with this, his more darker thoughts aside, those are not worth his attention for now unless it gets pressed the right way button wise. Which isn't impossible once he in Childe's case decides he might as well bring her by Wanmin after seeing the way she did light up in excitement.
How cute.
Maybe another point in her favor which isn't helping this though he has a feeling there's going to be a lot happening tonight. Probably also composed of him enjoying their competition a little too much knowing he doesn't always get these chances to show off; showing off his knowledge on things as best as he could included.
If only Yoimiya knew she was getting herself into by this point.)
We'll just get something not too spicy then!
no subject
Hmm~ In that case, why don't we say second place buys dinner? Only seems fair, right?
[ He's likely to notice that even in a competition of one versus one, Yoimiya doesn't speak of losers, preferring to use more positive wording to describe the person in a competition who doesn't win. She's all for penalties, though, knowing that they tend to inspire both sides to compete to the fullest of their capabilities. And it's not like either of them is struggling for money— although she's sure that he has a lot more of it than she.
Besides, they'll probably need some good food after the workout that an archery competition is going to be. ]
We can get something not too spicy for the main, but if we're in Liyue we absolutely have to try the specialties, so perhaps a serve of a chili dish on the side... Besides, you said you're used to it, so if it's too much for me that just means more for you!
[ There's something playful and searching in her eyes. A challenge, perhaps, to see if he'll put his money where his mouth is. ]
no subject
(Certain foods from his homeland were more or less using dried spices that happen to have a kick to them perhaps but he's ate enough Liyue cuisine to say that he's a pro at handling it. Eating all that in addition to whenever he would sneak by the Parlor to 'pester' Zhongli and Hu Tao over meals in a more 'friendly' way aside, he's certainly finding himself curious on it.
He'll definitely take up this challenge, putting his money where his mouth is given he is often times told that he has more mora than common sense. Pantaleone even often times brings up that he can spend a bit more than he typically does but Childe leans strictly toward procuring gifts for his siblings, maybe a weapon or two if he spots something he wants to try, or new clothes as necessary for the location.
He didn't need to change up much in Liyue but if he got asked about what he did in Sumeru he'd have not answered much. Especially since the heat on that level was his enemy.
(Hint: He did not exactly wear a shirt half the time and had to buy new pants and shoes.)
Hopefully he doesn't need to head back any time soon.)
So we'll go over then the dishes we want to try for it, see what all has just the right amount of spice then in that case for a side dish.
no subject
[ Although to be fair she's starting from a place of much, much less experience than he is, considering that Inazuma's foods are rarely spicy and are more often somewhere between savory and sweet, strong flavors to go with the mild taste of the rice they eat so often.
Regardless of all of that, though, the idea of being able to try some new flavors is certainly appealing, even more so if she's able to win the competition against him in order to try them for free... The thought has Yoimiya grinning, another light nudge against him as she peers up at him from her more diminutive height. ]
What can I say, Tartaglia~ I look forward to trying it at your expense!
[ And she laughs, because for as much as she enjoys teasing him, she knows it's unlikely she has a chance against someone of his capability. The bow may be a handicap for him, but he's still a Fatui Harbinger, after all. And Yoimiya may be a country girl who doesn't see his job as something to get in the way of getting to know him, but she still knows what his job means.
It's not something to be taken lightly. ]
no subject
(Gods, he's already getting a kick out this and he hasn't even been around her long either. It's always amusing seeing people poke a sleeping wolf in this regard no matter how fox like Childe is and can be; he's already planning on seeing how this goes first. Playing with his prey in a sense is always worth the hassle of making things interesting so he'll have to see what she intends to do thanks to that.
The nudging aside and his laughter in addition to it, he'll get something not too expensive yet spicy so she still has money even if a thought of her borrowing his money came to mind. Best not to go that far, it'd kill the mood and he does need to not go too far tonight.
So something cheap yet spicy in all the right ways to enable her to still have enough for her pockets to head back to Inazuma or wherever else she may wish to see. Though admittedly it is a tempting thought to see if he can make a 'business trip' back there at some point soon eventually.
(Likely to the annoyance of Ayato who didn't trust him in what interactions he's had with the Kamisato family head behind the scenes.)
The thoughts aside it's time to start this little game then now.)
Hey, I do get told I have more mora than common sense occasionally!
no subject
How does that work? [ It's a genuine, curious question. Outside of the aforementioned gift-giving habits, she doesn't really know how it might affect him. ] Do you spend more money than you should?
[ And, when you have that much, does it really matter?
She's still pondering over it when she sees a flat strip of land downhill from the part of the city in which they're walking, an excitement taking her expression over as she points it out to him, bold gestures that show she's not afraid to be seen as a stranger to these lands, a tourist on her first visit. Perhaps another sign of her naïveté, when merchants are known to fleece tourists wherever they can. ]
Look! Tartaglia! What about that place just there? It would be perfect for some target practice, don't ya think?
no subject
(For now it's best to ignore those thoughts of his but he is considering scaring off the merchants anyway later from fleecing her. Then again seems like some of them were already staring worriedly about it which he can use to his advantage later; might as well nip that in the bud earlier for the sake of nothing going awry depending on how tonight goes.
The thoughts he always holds seem to be tamer than his typical, considering he once thought of 'clipping' the Traveler's wings before if given the opportunity to do so. Might be a better sign he isn't drifting into too dark of places though he knows just as well as they do how his head works. More than them, actually, since he's gone through the motions of it enough.)
Mm? That works then! (He almost missed that she found a good spot for their game. Good thing that got him out of his tiny lull before he did start to forget what they were about to be doing; then again he can't say that the enjoyment he'll get from this won't be worth his efforts.
There's already something of a plan in mind that he intends to act on given he didn't mind mixing up things by pretending he's not in the best of form.)
So that's our spot found, for once we can set up of course~!
no subject
But in this moment? As far as their game goes, the success of finding somewhere to play is exciting enough that she's distracted, not only from scolding him as she would one of the children but even from the fact that he's technically meant to be touring her around Liyue right now. Instead, she finds herself almost pulling him along with her as she makes her way down the hill and toward the space in question.
They'll need targets, which perhaps is the hardest part; luckily there are merchants on their way out of the city proper, and of course she's swindled into spending more than she should on the materials she needs to set up a simple course for them, her enthusiasm driving the merchants' prices up without her knowledge. It's lucky for her perhaps that she has enough mora to cover such increased prices— she may not be on Tartaglia's level of rich, but she does well enough.
With the materials obtained and their spot located, all she needs to do is get things set up. Yoimiya unhooks her arm from his to do exactly that, offering him a brilliant smile as she gets to work. ]
This won't take too long, so if you need to get some free practice in, now's your chance~
no subject
Something which seems to catch their attention now in addition to a realization they've screwed themselves royally. They hadn't noticed Childe, they thought she was a tourist there alone not with someone like him who is looked at with scrutiny and varying degrees of wariness or fear. He just won't tell Yoimiya then what he'll be doing.)
I'll be back then~, just need to take care of something for mine is all.
(Aka, those merchants who just saw his smile spark into something disastrous right as they attempted to scurry off with him not only hot on their trail but already knowing what he intends to do. First is getting her money back perhaps for a little 'gift' to drop off at her inn room just with a note mentioning to be careful of swindlers; likely using someone else to write the note to not let it be obvious he found her.
After some time passes, Childe makes his way back with almost a spring in his step that is being well under control for the sake of not letting it come out what he did. He did indeed get his 'work out' and it was not something that the merchants themselves enjoyed either once he not only obtained back her money but also left them with a frightening warning that he's always there and watching.
Gods, this man is the worst.)
no subject
It's quite attractive, if she's honest... confidence most times is, and add that to the fact that he seems during his preparation time to do something that has made him happy or otherwise more at ease— in a way it has the blonde looking at him in something of a new light (he's been attractive right from the start, of course, but up until now it's been outweighed in her mind by a careful distance, something almost forgotten as she watches him walking back to her side).
It's to his benefit, then, that she doesn't realize where that newfound energy has come from. ]
Feeling good, are we~? I hope you're ready to get whipped! [ With a grin, Yoimiya indicates the targets. ] Three rounds, five arrows each time. Just standard arrows, no charging `em with your Vision. Best score wins. Sound fair?
[ A pause as she eyes him, a competitive fire burning behind the gold of her eyes. ]
And no going easy on me, you hear? I'm gonna beat you fair and square, Mister Harbinger!
no subject
(Not a lie either. He finds it more interesting to work at these times without using his vision, that and really he can't say that he wanted to cheat knowing that he didn't just have his vision between it and the techniques he was taught down in the Abyss. Additionally, he did notice how she's looking at him in both cases. Between the gaze that finds his confidence attractive with how he had a certain pep to his walk, a swagger that oozes he's not going to back down easily once he gets ready for this little 'game'.
He won't go with his plan of missing the targets then but he'll for now play it easy. Let her think she's got him on the ropes before he goes for the kill, just as he's always done with these moments since wouldn't it be more entertaining for there to be thoughts of the underdog winning over the big bad Harbinger?
Childe thinks so anyway once he laughs, that grin so wide but hiding every part of his darker thoughts again. All of them tucked away to prevent some manner of interruptions from ruining what is suppose to be entertainment for themselves, him especially, knowing that he didn't always get these chances.)
Hope you're ready to see how good I am even with my little handicap~! I'm more than willing to keep going as long as it takes win or lose.
(Oh, she is in for it now with how this flares his own competitive spirit, that side that will relish how this plays out thoroughly since he rarely takes a slow approach.)
no subject
Which isn't to say that she minds losing. To her, every time she doesn't win, it's an opportunity to learn more about how she can improve— and coming in second place to a Fatui Harbinger doesn't seem so bad anyway.
What's surprising, then, is the fact that two rounds in, she's pulled ahead of him in points. His aim is good, but not quite as accurate as hers, it seems— or at least, that's the impression he's given her through his playing the long game. The effect is clearly visible on the young woman, an extra liveliness to her as she finishes counting up the points, hands on her hips. ]
Ah... hmmm~ Seems like you're a little bit behind, Tartaglia... Maybe we should up the stakes a little, huh?
[ Not that she has any idea right now what she might suggest; she's just getting swept up in the competitive spirit, the excitement of the fact that her score is ahead of his— yet not far enough to give her reason to believe he's holding back. ]
It just seems like if I lose from this position, you oughta get something real special, you know?
[ Anyone else might read into her words, especially with that grin on her lips. But they come from a genuine place, something playful and fun and just that little bit over-confident. ]
no subject
(The long game was worth it seems like. Every inch of it since he did do it just to see what might go on for a change; normally Childe would play with those who he might be interested in with some manner of game in mind. The long con even if it comes down to that once he idly looks over the targets again briefly.
Since she seems to be enjoying herself he can take this to mean something special could happen like she's saying; he has to wonder what it was she could have in mind to begin with. Maybe something boring, but who knows? She did seem interest and he didn't seem to dislike her either; she has his attention fully which can get bad.
Bad enough that most sane people would practically turn tail and run but she's innocent and unassuming anyway. Unassuming to the point he almost feels bad for her learning about how he really is as their friendship goes on.)
Who knows, maybe I can make a strong comeback~!
(He just won't mention what he's thinking either, Childe is more interested in seeing what could happen were she to go ahead and raise these stakes.
Anything is possible sure, but, whenever it comes to his entertainment and enjoyment he has to see if it's something worth his time. Something fun or something that he'd play for keeps with.)
no subject
But Tartaglia seems to have neither of those attitudes. Rather, there's an easy sort of confidence to him, a conviction in the way he holds himself that says he will win, not that he needs to in order to prove himself. And somehow, she thinks that if he were to lose from here, he'd maintain that same posture, even if it wouldn't make sense for him to do so in the moment. He'd learn from it the way she does, and he'd come into it next time with even more confidence...
Yeah. It's incredibly attractive.
It's with all that in mind that she offers him a playfully lusty wink, a bright laugh following it as she stretches, as if to limber up for their final round. ]
Mm~ If you beat me from here, as well as buying you dinner... How about a kiss from the Queen of the Summer Festival?
no subject
(Oh no. She has his interest, she definitely caught his interest in this and he's already primed and ready to go for it; all it takes is figuring out just what else it is that she might want to do. Confidence, that's a nice thing but he's definitely not going to let himself go down without a fight if she makes this worth his while given that a kiss is interesting enough. It draws out his competitive streak easily. All it'd take is him having to step it up knowing he held back to see not only what she could do but find out if it could make things more interesting.
So far the answer is pointing toward a yes, it is making it interesting. He won't overdo it were he to win on the dinner and he's definitely going to sneak her money back to her as a small parting gift for the evening since he can easily figure out where she's staying at. He does have his ways but he won't use it for anything necessarily nefarious~, or that's just what people are going to think depending.
He can use it to his advantage some other time.
Although maybe he can also come up with something or other to see what he can do, too, considering he doubts she'd just want to return back to Inazuma without some manner of chance to take in more sights.)
